Nov. 2 – Day One Schedule
We believe that the key to our success is linked to our ability to provide opportunities for all to access and actively engage in the educational experience. To kick off our event, President Boyd will address Summit participants and lay the groundwork for this important conversation, specifically addressing the “why” behind UT’s shift to access and engagement and defining what success looks like for the UT System.
Access and Engagement Presentation (Belmont)
Dr. Savarese will create meaningful context for this year’s event by providing a clear picture of the national landscape for higher education’s work surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. Additionally, he will highlight several innovative strategies employed by other universities and systems to successfully achieve critical access and engagement goals.

Dr. Savarese will provide an overview of UT’s strategic goals focused on access and engagement and will highlight corresponding systemwide data. By engaging in this presentation, Summit participants are encouraged to reflect on what we know and do not know about access and engagement and consider how we can more effectively use systemwide data to align our efforts.

Nov. 3 – Day Two Schedule
Campus Update from Chief Diversity Officers
Campus Chief Diversity Officers will provide an update on the current state of access and engagement efforts on their campus. Time permitting, Summit participants will be able to ask questions.
In this fireside chat moderated by Dr. Leigh Morales, Annie Freeland Fishel and Ryan Stinnett will discuss the current legislative climate in Tennessee impacting our work with access and engagement. Additionally, they will share recommendations for UT System employees to successfully navigate conversations and work focused on diversity in all its forms. This session will conclude with a question-and-answer session.
Campuses are encouraged to meet and discuss key takeaways from this year’s discussion. A notetaker should be assigned to document critical questions or concerns that remain for your campus in preparation for the final session.

Discussion of Critical Questions and Actionable Steps
During this final session of the 2023 Summit, participants will discuss innovate approaches to operationalize the shift to access and engagement, develop actionable steps, and recommend associated measures. Discussions will occur in roundtables with time to share “big ideas” and critical questions that we can address as a system following this year’s Summit.
